Seven editions worth rereading, one per week, until the new season opens on September 1.
This week, The Work Behind Work takes its summer break. Fresh editions resume on Tuesday, September 1.
I thought about pushing through the summer, and then I remembered what I keep writing here: knowing when to pause is part of the work. So instead of forcing new editions into August inboxes, I selected the seven that deserve a second life, and they will return one per week on LinkedIn and Instagram.
If you joined recently, this is your catch-up path through the editions that built this newsletter. If you have been here from the start, I promise some of them read differently a few months later. I reread Watering Plastic last week and it landed on me in a way it did not when I wrote it.
Here is the summer programme:
July 14: Watering Plastic. The edition you mentioned to me most often this year. On the energy that goes into things that stopped growing a while ago, and how care turns into habit without announcing it.
July 21: Mark to Market. The most finance native edition of the series. Positions get revalued at today’s price, whatever they cost yesterday. Careers deserve the same honesty at least once a year.
July 28: Is Your Career Liquid? The natural follow-up. Once you know what your position is worth, the next question is how fast you could move if you had to. A test worth running from a deck chair.
August 4: The Mismatch. The gap between who you are and what your role asks of you rarely shows up at the office. It shows up at a distance, which makes August its natural season.
August 11: Where Does Your Loyalty Belong? The most existential question in the archive. To the company, to the craft, or to yourself. Summer gives it the space it needs.
August 18: The Trade-Off. Corporate structure against entrepreneurial ownership, both sides priced honestly. For everyone coming back from holidays with ideas.
August 25: Belong First, Then Become. The closing pick, on belonging as the condition for becoming. A good thought to carry back to the office.
